MEET THE FOUNDERS
Mother - daughter duo, Stella Unigwe and Ndidiamaka Allen, shared the same problem: finding hair extensions that matched their natural hair texture. Silky straight type 1 and 2 hair has always dominated the beauty industry, leaving women like them with curlier textures with minimal options to purchase from. Stella and Ndidi began their journey in 2009 when they started researching how to create kinky curly hair extensions for themselves.
Ultimately, many other black women would also come forward sharing the same dilemma and demand for curly hair extension options. After 13 years of in field research and testing different extensions, in February 2022, Stella and Ndidi launched their hair brand Kink + Coil to help bridge the gap in the beauty industry and to provide access to high quality textured hair extensions for kinky haired women, just like them.
In a world where kinky hair is finally finding its voice, Kink + Coil is breaking down beauty barriers so that black women can proudly own their looks without feeling inferior. We are upholding the unique cultural identities that shape who we are as individuals and as a people and giving black women all over the world reasons to fall in love – not just with their hair – but also with themselves.
